Apwoyo in the press

Our work has been covered repeatedly by the regional press. Two articles give a good overview.

„First goats, then schools, now glasses“

By Herbert Thormeyer

The article describes how the goat project in Lwala grew into an aid organisation that builds schools, finances teachers and is now setting up eyesight care. Around 2,300 pairs of glasses had been distributed at the time of writing. An optician’s workshop is planned in the Kalaki region: it should not only meet the considerable demand but also create jobs and allow glasses to be fitted precisely to each wearer. The German Opticians’ Development Service is sending a master optician for this.

The article also records what matters to us: travel, food and accommodation are paid by the German volunteers themselves — donations go 100 % into the association’s projects.

„Man from Serrig helps people in Africa“

This portrait tells the backstory: Ingbert Dawen spent six months as a development worker in Uganda, helping to rebuild a hospital. Out of that time grew the goat project for the widows of Lwala.
