From „Goats for Lwala“ to Apwoyo e. V.
Apwoyo is the word many people call out to us during our voluntary work in Uganda. It comes from the language of the Kumam and simply means: thank you.
Our projects for widows and orphans soon became known well beyond Germany and attracted steady support. With many new helpers and a growing number of projects in more and more Ugandan communities, it was time to found a registered non-profit association.
Why a registered association?
- Sharing the work. What began as the initiative of a few now rests on many shoulders.
- Issuing donation receipts. As a recognised non-profit we can certify your donation for tax purposes.
- Lasting beyond individuals. An association gives our work a stable framework and secures it for the future.
The old name remains part of our story
Alongside the new name, the old one remains part of our philosophy — because it all began with a few goats in a village called Lwala.
How that grew into more than 70 projects across a dozen communities is shown in our project chronicle.
