Hearing aids and a hearing studio for Uganda

A hearing studio for a chicken

Hearing loss, in old age and in youth, is a global problem. While access to hearing-care professionals and hearing aids is available at any time in Germany, it is a major obstacle in Uganda: specialists exist only in the large cities, and patients must cover every cost themselves — unaffordable for a population living in poverty.

Together with David Stefanczyk, who runs Die Hörstube in Saarburg, and with the support of the Lions Club Saarburg, Apwoyo e. V. took on this challenge.

A new hearing studio has opened at the health centre in Ngora — the only one of its kind in the country.

“People came from near and far, some sleeping outdoors for three days and three nights just to be treated by me. I gladly provided all my services free of charge.” — David Stefanczyk

On his departure, as thanks for his outstanding work, David received a live chicken from the district commissioner of Ngora.

Donate old hearing aids

Used and old hearing aids can be handed in at Die Hörstube Saarburg, Heckingstraße 12–14. They are cleaned and repaired free of charge and put to their new purpose in Uganda.
