Project description
Dear friends and supporters,
Fruit trees make an important contribution to the sustainable development of communities and schools in Uganda.
Besides improving the environment, fruit trees provide fruit as an additional food source over time. They also help green the surroundings and make children and families aware of using natural resources responsibly.
With the support of partners and helpers, young trees are planted together with children, teachers and members of the community.
Project status
The pictures document various planting operations on site.
Together with children and adults, young fruit trees were prepared, planted and watered. The plantings take place in close cooperation with the local communities.
Regular care lets the trees grow for years and create lasting benefit for coming generations.
Project background
In many regions of Uganda, trees play an important role for the environment, climate and food.
Deforestation and population growth are costing green spaces in many places, though. At the same time there is often no way to teach children practical knowledge about nature and conservation.
Planting fruit trees combines environmental education with sustainable development and raises awareness of protecting natural resources.
Implementation
The planting operations are organised together with local partners.
Suitable sites are chosen, planting holes prepared and young trees set in. Children and adults take an active part in the work and learn at the same time how to handle the young plants.
After planting, the trees are regularly tended and watered to encourage healthy growth.
