Clean water is a vital foundation for health, hygiene and daily life for many families in Uganda.
With our rainwater systems we want to help communities and institutions collect rainwater sustainably and put it to use.
The systems help above all in regions where access to water is difficult or long distances must be covered to the nearest source.
Project description
As part of this project, several rainwater tanks were installed in communities and at public institutions.
The tanks collect rainwater from roofs and store it for daily use. This means water is more readily available in drier periods too.
The rainwater systems help to:
- to improve the local water supply
- to shorten long journeys to fetch water
- to ease the daily burden on families and institutions
- to promote sustainable use of rainwater
Support for communities
The systems are built directly in cooperation with the local communities.
By storing rainwater, families, children and institutions gain better access to water for:
- everyday use
- Cleaning and hygiene
- Household chores
- general everyday needs
Sustainable infrastructure
The rainwater systems are an important part of sustainable infrastructure projects.
The aim of the project is:
- to improve living conditions in the long term
- to support local communities
- to expand the water supply sustainably
- to promote environmentally friendly solutions
The tanks installed make an important contribution to local supply and to improving infrastructure.
Working together on site
The work is carried out together with local helpers, communities and partners.
Close cooperation means the systems can be used and maintained for years.
The future of the project
More rainwater systems are to be built in future, giving even more people access to a better water supply.
