Medicine aid on site
Access to basic medicines is severely limited in many regions of Uganda.
As part of our projects we support local health facilities with urgently needed medicines. The medicines are collected, checked and then handed over in person on site, to ensure they are used directly and sensibly.
This help makes urgent treatment possible, bridges shortages and lastingly improves medical care for children and adults.
Project status
Since 2023 we have funded, for the health centre in Apapai, the a full year’s supply of medicines — in 2023 and again in 2024. This secures basic provision for the population of the catchment area for twelve months.
In 2023 we also connected the health centre in Apapai to the power supply. Without electricity, medicines cannot be kept cool and treatments cannot be carried out after dark.
Project background
Uganda has no health system comparable to the German one. There is no health insurance: patients pay for hospital stays, treatment and medicines themselves. Anyone without the money goes untreated.
That is why we start with medicines. They are comparatively cheap, work immediately and reach many people — and they prevent a treatable illness from becoming a permanent disability.
